(Deutsch, bitte runterscrollen!) Salvation? Joe Bonamassa’s new album, which will be released this Friday (21.09.2018), has been titled „Redemption“. Salvation of what? Of constraints? Chains? In any case, it is the statement of a blues monster that shows everyone how much power is left in him. Already this huge opening chord! Booom! It’s like ‚Hey guys, do not even lean back on your comfortable couches! Off it goes, that’ll knock your socks off!‘ Something like that I imagine Joe’s attitude is in his new stroke of genius! Once again a great album!

It’s Joe Bonamassa’s 13th solo studio album, and it’s not supposed to be a bad luck number. The album consists exclusively of original material. The ambitious musician shows that he is far from the end of his strength and still knows how to redefine the boundaries of blues rock. It consists of twelve songs, and it’s amazing how apparently effortless Joe creates variety on the album. It’s almost as if Bonamassa is experiencing a creative rebirth again. “I’m going through some other stuff in my life I didn’t expect to be going through. It’s a rising, it’s contrition, it’s acceptance, it’s everything. It’s painful, but knowing that there’s a rising coming,” he explains.

The album unites Bonamassa with some of Nashville’s best musicians, including Tom Hambridge, James House, Gary Nicholson, Richard Page, and American rock’n’roll legend Dion DiMucci (The Wanderer, Run-around Sue), whose songwriting expertise you can hear on the title track. Joe also continues his long creative relationship with Kevin Shirley, with whom he has produced a great album. „From a producer’s point of view, this is by far the most challenging and versatile album Joe ever made,“ says Shirley.

The music touches your heart

And it is indeed versatile. And there is no piece on the work that weakens even in the least! The album begins with „Evil Mama“, a polite reference to Led Zeppelin, but a powerful take-off of his musical engine. Some rockabilly boogie blues („King Bee Shakedown“), timeless hard rock („Molly-O“), profound ballads („self-inflicted wounds“), Tom Waits-oriented blues („Pick Up The Pieces“) … Bonamassa has really proven an unmatched skill in song selection. „The Ghost of Macon Jones“ is epic, „Just Cos You Can not Mean You Should“ is euphoric, the lyrivs get under your skin and the music touches your heart!

And then the legendary title song: The Hook is reminiscent of „Kashmir“, a bow to Led Zeppelin. Then there’s the gorgeous vocals and a fantastic guitar solo. And once you’ve heard the whole album, then you understand the title: On the album, the theme of salvation runs like a central theme: But it’s also about the feelings of strength and your own ability to act. „We all need to be saved at some point in our lives, and we are longing to redeem ourselves after a tremendous loss and tremendous pain,“ says Bonamassa.

Erlösung von was? Von Zwängen? Ketten?

Kraftvolles Durchstarten seines musikalischen Motors

Etwas Rockabilly-Boogie-Blues („King Bee Shakedown“), zeitlosen Hardrock („Molly-O“), tiefgründige Balladen („Self-Inflicted Wounds”) , Tom-Waits-orientierter Blues („Pick Up The Pieces“) … „The Ghost of Macon Jones“ ist episch, „Just Cos You Can Don’t Mean You Should” ist euphorisch und unter die Haut gehend!

Sagenhafter Titelsong
